y we r POOR (reflection)
So, the question for me is how will I start this? Yes, we all know that Philippines is a poor country, Filipinos are poor, etc., etc. but can’t we do something about it? Clearly these past governments that I had seen and experienced didn’t solve any problems, minor problems maybe, but not to the extent that would make Philippines to be iconic from trash to treasures, unlike any other Asian countries that had proven themselves. There’s no time for us to be envy for other’s success but while reading the article ‘why we are poor’ made me feel not sorry for our country, simply because I am part of this, but rather qualmish about what happened these past 50 years or more.
Many of us would blame our conquerors from Spain and as I’ve learned in this article from Iberian Peninsula. All the trashy traits Filipinos have today were all blame to them. Yes, for me probably but we also know what’s right from wrong so it’s up to us if we would encourage this. One problem for us is that we are easily affected of what’s new and what is current whether its fashion, personal, gadgets, music and all the things you could think of. I, myself would be guilty of these because my personal preferences would somehow be inspired by Western culture but this is nothing new. I mean as you can see today, many would be guilty. Period. What I’m trying to say here is that we easily acquire others characteristics, maybe because of the strong bonds we created with our family, friends or loved ones but in the end it would still be our own choice. So who to blame really? It’s everybody’s game to survive all these challenges ahead of us.
We all had our negative side but we Filipinos had our positive side hidden somewhere .Haha. Of course, we do have something good about what we do. I would like to emphasize what the author had said in this article about our clean government (Magsaysay), art forms, revolt wherein many people shed their blood, and also Rizal, and in this generation would be Pacquiao, Charice, Arnel Pineda, etc. These are some things we can be proud of. But unfortunately people somehow have forgotten. I don’t know maybe it’s not something you would think in your everyday life. I think we need to appreciate and be thankful for all of this by enriching what they had started and to always look back where we came from. I would also like to point out that we don’t need to boast for it but instead be humble because in the first place, we’re not in the position since we were not those people :) I have been viewing youtube videos and I have read comments of many Filipinos, it’s really disgusting, really, Filipinos fighting fellow Filipinos. I think this trend is all over the globe. Hey, it’s part of the CULTURE!
There’s a song that I remembered while reading the latter part of this article. I was happily singing this rock song during my childhood days. I really don’t know what it means but now it is starting to sink in. So here it goes: “Stuck in my head again feels like I’ll never leave this place. There’s no escape. I’m my own worst enemy. I’ve given up. I’m sick of feeling. Is there nothing you can say? Take this all away. I’m suffocating! Tell me what the heck is wrong with me?” It is entitled Given Up by Linkin’ Park. You really are your own worst enemy. You have the solution to your own problem and it would always go back on what you will choose.
